Mission Statement:

Norwood District Public School is committed to developing self-motivated students with the academic and social skills needed to embrace the challenges of today and tomorrow.

Located in the small town of Norwood, east of Peterborough, Norwood District Public School (NDPS) was officially opened in 1961 when SS#1,SS#5,SS#6,SS#7 and three more schools from Dummer Township amalgamated. The school serves the town and surrounding rural communities. It is comprised of 14 regular classrooms, a large library, 1 portable, a small gym, Principal and main offices.
The entire staff at NDPS supports the school’s mission statement in their commitment to developing self-motivated students.

Community involvement is important at NDPS. The annual fall fair is an important event and all classes have the opportunity to submit entries in the various academic and arts and crafts divisions.  Students participate in the Legion Public Speaking Contest and the Remembrance Day Observations in our community. We receive support from the community: the Independent Order of the Daughters of the Empire (IODE), St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, the Lions and Lioness Club and the Pinkerton Fund. We have a dedicated group of volunteers who provide our with nutritional snacks for each classroom and all students.

The NDPS School Council is very active in many areas of school life. Volunteers spend hours working in the classrooms and in the Learning Commons. They conduct a variety of fundraising initiatives, including hot lunches and a Christmas Craft Sale to support classroom programs. The School Council is consulted and provides valuable input to our School Improvement Plan. All stakeholders in our school value a strong, working partnership. Our students reap the benefits.

The student population consists of approximately 300 students in Kindergarten to grade 6. All students are integrated into age appropriate settings where their contributions to school life are valued.

Our students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of in-house athletic activities such as soccer, basketball, volleyball, cross country, 3 pitch, and track and field. NDPS is part of the Eastern Region Athletics Association. Through this association our students have opportunities to compete in interschool tournaments. Other co-curricular activities happen throughout the year.

The “Wolf” is our school mascot, because,” Wolves don’t brag, wolves don’t swear, wolves share equipment and space, wolves are trustworthy, wolves play fair and wolves encourage each other.” In order to recognize the positive, daily achievements of our students, “Wolf Awards” are given out every morning. Leadership opportunities are provided by our older students who undertake responsibilities such as: Reading Buddies, Primary lunchroom monitors, Library monitors and Morning announcement team. Respect for self and others are our guiding principles.
